Synopsis:

The Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (ALLS) will be conducted in Australia in the second half of 2006, with results available in early 2008. First wave ALLS results from a range of countries have already become available. These findings show the increasingly important role that skill playes in the formal education and training and the effects of education and skill on continuing learning in informal and non-formal settings at home and work. This presentation will discuss the first wave findings from ALLS including the association between literacy and different types of learning; skill measurement in the new domain of problem-solving in ALLS, the relationship between ICT use and other skills sets, and the comparative results from the 1996 and 2006 surveys.
